Rays' Archer remains confident despite prolonged slump

NEW YORK —The public reaction to RHP Chris Archer’s prolonged slump, which in some cases touches on panic, is not shared by Archer himself.

“Totally,” Archer said. “These things happen.”

To support his case, Archer mentioned Cardinals RHP Adam Wainwright, who is 0-3, and Red Sox LHP David Price, who is 2-0 but has a 7.06 ERA, as just two of several top-tier pitchers who are off to less-than-dazzling starts this season.

“You look at guys who their first four starts aren’t pitching to their capability and I’m sure they’re not tripping,” Archer said, “and I’m definitely not tripping about it.
