The Tampa Bay Rays did not play well during their past series against the Kansas City Royals. They lost all three games and only managed to score a total of three runs during the series. The pitching did what it could to keep the games close with the exception of Thursday’s blow out loss.
One pitcher specifically is deserving of a mention and that is Mason Englert.
The Rays hadn’t called upon Englert in over a week when Kevin Cash brought him in for the 6th inning with the Rays trailing, 3-0. Englert delivered exactly what was needed as he kept the Royals from adding anything to their lead, yielding zero runs despite five hits; Englert also struck out four and walked none.
