The Phillies finalized a deal with the Rays to acquire two-time All-Star catcher Wilson Ramos for a player to be named or cash about an hour before Tuesday's non-waiver Trade Deadline.
The 30-year-old Ramos, a career .271/.315/.438 hitter in nine Major League seasons, is hitting .297/.346/.488 with 14 home runs and 53 RBIs. Ramos, who spent seven seasons with the Nationals, was believed to be coveted by Washington, a National League East rival of Philadelphia.
Ramos is currently on the 10-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain. The first-place Phillies entered Tuesday leading the third-place Nats by 5 1/2 games.
