NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Philadelphia Phillies selected Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Tyler Goeddel with the top overall pick in Major League Baseball's Rule 5 draft at the winter meetings Thursday.
Players chosen in the Rule 5 draft must remain on the selecting team's 25-man major league roster for the entire season or be offered back to his original team.
The Cincinnati Reds followed by taking New York Yankees outfield prospect Jake Cave with the second overall choice.
