More bad news for Rays: Yonny Chirinos out at least a month with finger injury

ST. PETERSBURG — The Rays pitching staff took another major hit today with news that Yonny Chirinos will be sidelined at least a month.

Chirinos left Sunday’s game with inflammation in his right middle finger and will be shut down from throwing for two weeks and then re-evaluated. Even in a best-case scenario it would be at least two more weeks until he is built up to return to action, and based on the evaluation it could be up to six weeks.

"It’s unfortunate,'' manager Kevin Cash said. "He’s going to be out some time.''

Chirinos is the third starter to be sidelined into September, joining Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell.
