Moore endures weak start to pitch Rays out of last place

BOSTON – There was the leadoff double followed by the one-out walk and then another walk to load the bases, and before the first inning was over, Matt Moore had thrown 32 pitches, allowed two runs and appeared headed for a short night.

It wasn’t all that unlike the last time Moore faced the Red Sox at Fenway Park back on Aug. 1, when he allowed six runs on nine hits in three innings and was optioned to Durham after the game.

But there was Moore on Tuesday, pitching in the seventh inning with a two-run lead in what became a 5-2 victory for the Rays.
