BOSTON — LHP Matt Moore settled down after a rough first inning and pitched into the seventh inning, and the Rays offense came to life after a quiet start Tuesday in a 5-2 victory against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.
With the win, the Rays moved out of last place in the AL East, leaping over the Red Sox.
Red Sox LHP Henry Owens retired the first 12 batters he faced before allowing a leadoff double to 2B Logan Forsythe to start the fifth inning. Forsythe eventually scored on a sacrifice fly.
The Rays went ahead 3-2 in the sixth inning when DH Richie Shaffer scored on 3B Evan Longoria’s sacfrice fly with the bases loaded.
