James Loney might not be unemployed for too long, but his hometown Houston Astros don't look like a potential suitor.
Loney is a free agent after being released by the Tampa Bay Rays before their season opener on Sunday. The 31-year-old is a career .285 hitter and a decent defender at first base, but the Astros, who had several players competing for their first-base job in spring training, are said to feel "set" at the position, Jon Heyman of MLB Network tweets.
Marwin Gonzalez will play first for Houston in its season opener against the New York Yankees on Tuesday, but rookie Tyler White is expected to get the majority of at-bats at the position after his productive spring.
