Matt Baker’s takeways from Rays-A’s

A day after blaming the Rays’ loss on his bounced throw to first, Willy Adames failed to convert on another fielding opportunity. He couldn’t get a soft grounder out of his glove, which helped Tampa Bay fall behind 1-0. It was ruled a hit, but it’s the kind of play an everyday shortstop should make.

The Rays’ base running continues to be a concern. The latest culprit was when Yandy Diaz was caught stealing, curiously trying to take third with the Rays’ top hitter (Austin Meadows) up. Entering Wednesday, only four teams have been thrown out attempting to steal more often than the Rays.
