BOSTON — 3B Evan Longoria’s milestone home run in the sixth inning Wednesday kick-started the Rays offense, which rallied for a 4-2 victory against the Red Sox.
It was Longoria’s 20th home run of the season, making him only the fourth third baseman in major league history to hit 20 homers in at least seven of his first eight big league seasons. Longoria joined Eddie Matthews (who did it eight times), Chipper Jones (seven) and Scott Rolen (seven).
SS Asdrubal Cabrera and RF Steve Souza Jr., added RBI doubles and CF Kevin Kiermaier hit just his second career home run off a left-hander as the Rays took the final three games of the four game series.
