PORT CHARLOTTE — It was Tuesday at Rays spring training, time for the State of the Longo address to media. But, first, the state of the union: On New Year’s Eve, Evan Longoria married longtime girlfriend Jaime Edmondson. The couple honeymooned in Paris, The City of Light.
And now back to baseball.
Remember when Longoria was among the game’s brightest lights? Five years ago, if you asked me to name the 10 best players in baseball, the Rays third baseman was on my list. It was a no-brainer.
Now I scratch my head and wonder where it went, wonder if Longoria, 30, still young, still a decent guy, will ever be what he was early in his career, a perennial All-Star, 100-RBI seasons in 2009 and 2010, all those Longo moments.
