ST. PETERSBURG -- Adeiny Hechavarria had to leave Tuesday night's game against the Braves in the eighth inning after a bizarre play caused him to get hit in the face by a ball on one hop off the artificial surface.
The Braves' Ronald Acuna Jr. led off the eighth and skied a popup into foul territory behind home plate at Tropicana Field. But the ball hit the stairwell connecting the A ring to the B ring, then ricocheted into fair territory. Hechavarria scrambled after the ball but came up just short of making a play.
