For starters: Chirinos takes the mound, for real

The Rays will start Yonny Chirinos as the starter with no planned opener.

Chirinos has started and filled the extended role following the opener this season, but he’ll make his fifth start in 11 appearances today. With Tyler Glasnow moving to the 60-day IL on Sunday, the need for a third starter is heightened.

Austin Meadows will lead off in the DH role, but said he could have played in the outfield if needed despite getting plucked in the knee by Cleveland pitcher Trevor Bauer on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Blue Jays will DH rookie Cavan Biggio, son of Hall of Famer Craig Biggio, because he’s the latest victim of a flu bug that’s swept through the clubhouse.
