Font-astic! Vet gets 1st win as Rays blank Yanks

ST. PETERSBURG -- Rays right-hander Wilmer Font made it look easy. He set the tone for a patchwork pitching plan, shutting down baseball's most potent offense. His teammates did the rest, generating enough firepower for Tampa Bay to stymie the suddenly silent Yankees, 4-0, at Tropicana Field.

Font (1-3), the starter on the so-called "bullpen day,'' was charged with going as long as he could before reinforcements were called. That turned out to be longer than expected, as Font threw 5 2/3 shutout innings -- his longest outing as an MLB starter -- and allowed only three hits, walking just one and striking out four.
