Ex-Ray Cabrera agrees with Mets

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Mets reached an agreement with free-agent infielder Asdrubal Cabrera, according to multiple reports. The deal was reached hours after New York acquired second baseman Neil Walker from the Pirates for Jonathon Niese.

Cabrera agreed to a two-year deal that guarantees $18.5 million, but the announcement was pending a physical.

Cabrera, 30, hit .265 with 15 home runs and 58 RBIs in 505 at-bats for the Rays last season. He played shortstop for Tampa Bay, but he has experience at second base.

He would be an offensive upgrade over Ruben Tejada and Wilmer Flores.
