Duffy misses bats, sets strikeout record for Royals

Danny Duffy’s pitches did not find many bats on Monday night.

Duffy set a franchise record with 16 strikeouts and took a no-hit bid into the eighth inning of the Kansas City Royals’ 3-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Duffy allowed a hit and a walk over eight frames, the most scoreless innings he has pitched in a game in his career. It was also the longest no-hit bid of his career.

What was the key to his success?

Swings and misses

Duffy induced 35 swings and misses Monday, tied with Clayton Kershaw (last season) for the most in a single game in the last 15 seasons.
