In 13 1/3 innings, Devenski (1-0, 1.35 ERA) has racked up 25 strikeouts this season. Heading into Friday's game, that was the seventh highest total among all pitchers -- not just relievers -- in the league. His 20 K's in his first 10 innings to start the season tied the franchise record set by closer Billy Wagner in 1999.
"I think my fastball command has been a little better and it has had good action on it. My slider, which I worked hard on this offseason, has been working so I think it is just all the hard work I've put in is starting to pay off," Devenski said of the prodigious strikeout totals.
