THE GOOD: Drew Smyly tied a career-high with 11 strikeouts and probably deserved a better fate. The three runs he did give up came on a ground out and a sac-fly. Looking back at his strikeouts you can see just why Smyly was so good and it’s all about elevation. Here are the final pitches on all 11 strikeouts. Outside of one hanging slider that caught a batter looking, all of the strikeouts came on sliders down or fastballs up.
