ST. PETERSBURG -- The Boston Red Sox brought the worst record in the American League into Tropicana Field on Friday night for the start of a three-game series against the first-place Tampa Bay Rays.
When the Red Sox’ underachieving season was mentioned before the game, Rays manager Kevin Cash said, “We definitely won’t be taking them lightly at all.”
As well they shouldn’t, because the Red Sox scored a run in the 10th for a 4-3 victory in front of 17.508 on Ladies Night Out at Tropicana Field.
Mookie Betts doubled to left field off Steve Geltz to start the 10th inning and scored on a single by Brock Holt.
