Tampa Bay Rays bench coach and longtime head coach at AAA, will be named the Blue Jays new head coach for the 2019 season. Montoyo has been part of the Kevin Cash’s major league staff since 2015, beginning as the third base coach and eventually becoming the bench coach this past year.
Montoyo will be named the successor to John Gibbons. Gibbons had two coaching stints with the Jays. The first spanning from 2004 to 2008 and the second spanning from 2013 to 2018. During his 11 years as the Blue Jays manager, he compiled a 793-789 record.
