Rangers edge Lightning in series opener (AFP)

New York (AFP) - Center Dominic Moore deflected in the game-winning goal with 2:25 to play Saturday as the New York Rangers beat the Tampa Bay Lightning in game one of the NHL Western Conference finals.

The Rangers had just killed a Tampa Bay penalty when center Kevin Hayes fired the puck toward the front of the net. It caromed off Moore and past Lightning goalie Ben Bishop.

Rangers center Derek Stepan -- who scored the second-round series-winning goal in overtime of game seven against the Washington Capitals -- scored the other goal for the Rangers.
