Man brought gun to Lightning game, Tampa police say

A St. Petersburg man is facing misdemeanor charges after bringing a gun to Wednesday’s Tampa Bay Lightning playoff game, Tampa police said.

Lucas Cassidy, 27, 9100 Ninth St., dropped the gun while in a bathroom inside Amalie Arena, and a witness notified a officer, police said. When the officer confronted Cassidy, he told her he had the gun in his pocket, police said.

Police said Cassidy was not screened properly by security at the arena’s entrance.

Cassidy faces a misdemeanor charge of bringing the gun to a sporting event. Police said he had a concealed-carry permit, and that’s why he wasn’t charged with a felony.
