Tampa Bay Lightning
DETROIT — Saturday’s Game 5 loss at Amalie Arena marked the second time the Lightning were shut out in the series after only being shut out once during the regular season.
It also marked the first time Tampa Bay was shut out at home since Nov. 29, 2013, in a loss to Marc-Andre Fleury and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
It’s a testament to the structure and defensive mindset put forth by Detroit to slow the league’s highest-scoring team.
The Red Wings also have slowed the Lightning speed through the neutral zone by running interference, leaving many to wonder if the standard has slipped for the postseason, if it has slipped overall or if Detroit simply is getting away with it.
