Bolts' Cooper named to North America staff for World Cup of Hockey

Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper will be a part of the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

Cooper was selected Friday to be an assistant coach for Team North America, which will be comprised of Canadian and U.S. players age 23 and younger.

Cooper did not return a message seeking comment.

Edmonton head coach Todd McLellan was previously named head coach. The rest of the assistants, also named Friday, are Arizona head coach Dave Tippett, San Jose head coach Peter DeBoer and Edmonton assistant coach Jay Woodcraft.

“Jon, Peter, Dave and Jay are great additions to our staff and their tremendous experience will go a long way in helping our young players have a successful tournament,’’ North America general manager Peter Chiarelli said in a statement.
