Barberio not issued qualifying offer by Lightning

DIRK SHADD | Times

The Lightning announced the five restricted free agents it has given qualifying offers to by today's deadline, with Andrej Sustr, Luke Witkowski, Vladislav Namestnikov, Carter Ashton and Philippe Paradis.

Forward Mike Blunden was signed to a one-year, two-way deal.

But one notable player left out was defenseman Mark Barberio, who was not given a qualifying offer and will become an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday.

Barberio, 25, has played in 106 NHL games since being the Lightning's sixth-round pick in 2008. He was essentially the seventh defenseman the past two seasons, including appearing in just 52 games this season, one in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
