The NFL is a quarterback league. If you have a good one, you have a chance to be good. If you have one that’s better than good, you have a chance to plan a championship parade or two.
Bucs general manager Jason Licht saw one who showed the potential to be better than good just waiting to be picked during the 2015 NFL draft — Jameis Winston.
Winston was the light at the end of what Licht called a “bummer” of a season that saw the Bucs finish 2-14, the worst record in the NFL. The Bucs owned the first overall pick and, with it, a chance to change the direction of a franchise that hasn’t won a playoff game since beating Oakland in Super Bowl XXXVII in January 2003.
