On Monday, the Houston Texans placed safety D.J. Swearinger on waivers. Texans head coach Bill O’Brien refused to discuss why the team decided to part ways with the 23-year-old safety after just two seasons, but added, “Like I always say, every decision we make is in the best interest of the team. And winning.”
Throughout the offseason, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have spent a lot of time retooling their safety depth chart, re-signing Bradley McDougald, inking Chris Conte to a one-year deal, and trading Dashon Goldson to Washington. And they may not be done yet. According to the Tampa Bay Times’ Rick Stroud, the Buccaneers are considering whether or not to put a claim in for Swearinger.
