QB Josh Freeman tries to restart career in developmental league

Quarterback Josh Freeman, cut by the Miami Dolphins during training camp in August, is taking a different path in his quest to resurrect his NFL career.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 2009 first-round pick has signed to play in the Fall Experimental Football League, a four-team entity created last year to help develop players seeking a spot in the NFL.

On Tuesday, the league’s Brooklyn Bolts announced Freeman would be their quarterback this season.

Freeman, 27, was released by the Bucs — then coached by Greg Schiano — early in the 2013 season. After unsuccessful stops with the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants, most observers said his preseason stint with the Dolphins was his last chance to stay in the NFL.
