Some are fill-ins. Some are bridges. Some are unquestioned starters.
Only about a handful have earned the label "franchise quarterback."
Sorry Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota, Jared Goff and Carson Wentz. Maybe one day. But not now.
To earn such a designation, a quarterback must demonstrate maturity and leadership, but above all else, he must perform. And at a high level over a long period of time.
Most quarterback debates come down to how many games and Super Bowls a player won. Wins are important, of course, but they alone don't determine whether a player is a franchise quarterback.
