Jenna Laine of ESPN reports that the Buccaneers have released veteran DL George Johnson on Friday as they begin the process of cutting their roster down to 53 players.
Johnson, 29, originally signed on with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers back in 2010. After a brief stint with the Vikings, the Lions signed Johnson to a contract back in April of 2014.
Detroit later traded him to the Buccaneers in return for a 2015 fifth-round pick that ultimately became Michael Burton.
