Western Michigan will pay Syracuse football $300,000 to open season on road

Syracuse, N.Y. -- Syracuse University will receive a six-figure payment to open the 2018 football season on the road.

Western Michigan will pay Syracuse $300,000 to play an Aug. 31 game at Waldo Stadium in Kalamazoo, Mich., according to a copy of the scheduling agreement obtained via a Freedom of Information Act request.

Syracuse will pay Western Michigan the same amount when the Broncos make the return trip to the Carrier Dome on Sept. 21, 2019, per the agreement.

These type of financial agreements are common in college athletics to help defray costs.
