Syracuse kicker Andre Szmyt has been named a nominee for the Burlsworth Trophy. The award honors the most outstanding football player in America who began his career as a walk-on and has shown outstanding performance on the field.
Szmyt, the 2018 winner of the Lou Groza Award as the nation's top placekicker, has set the Orange's program record for career points (344), owns the best field goal percentage (.818) and record most field goals made (63) at Syracuse.
After joining the team as a walk-on prior to the 2018 season, he earned a scholarship during the Orange's 10-win campaign that he won the Lou Groza Award in.
