Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse Chiefs general manager Jason Smorol made sure everyone at NBT Bank Stadium on Saturday appreciated the significance of the night.
Smorol used the word "historic'' three times in a long prelude that introduced new Syracuse University athletics director Mark Coyle, who was throwing out the first pitch. The Chiefs and SU partnered for a promotion that included Syracuse wearing orange and blue jerseys, a wardrobe that was auctioned off after the game to benefit charity.
The characterization may have been an exaggeration, no doubt, but Smorol doesn't believe in modesty when it comes to his team.
