Syracuse starting linebacker Jonathan Thomas suspended one game for rules violation

Syracuse starting linebacker Jonathan Thomas was suspended for SU's opening game due to an undisclosed team rules violation, according to Syracuse football spokesman Mike Morrison.

Morrison declined to provide further information about the violation but said the suspension was only for one game, and that it was the only disciplinary absence that he was aware of heading into the game against Central Connecticut State.

Thomas plays strongside linebacker for the Orange, and is the least experienced member of a strong group that includes Zaire Franklin and Parris Bennett.

Transitioned safety Kielan Whitner is listed behind Thomas on the depth chart, although linebackers Austin Valdez and Andrew Armstrong are more experienced options.
