Syracuse runner Justyn Knight comes places 3rd in national championship race

After finishing as the runner-up in a pair of national championship races this year, Syracuse University runner Justyn Knight came up short Friday in his bid for a national title.

Knight, a junior, entered the 5,000-meter event at the NCAA Track and Field Championships as a heavy favorite. He came in third place with a time of 14 minutes and 36.23 seconds.

He finished behind Jack Bruce, of Arkansas, and Grant Fisher, of Standford. Fisher beat Knight by 0.63 seconds.

Only one other Syracuse runner has ever won an NCAA individual national championship. Jarret Eaton won the indoor 60 meter hurdles in 2012.
