Syracuse football has few fan traditions, but the Varsity banner flip stands out

The Syracuse Orange football program is one with plenty of history. There’s the legend of 44, the 1959 team, Ernie Davis being the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy, Jim Brown, Floyd Little, the 1987 team, Donovan McNabb, Troy Nunes being cursed with his name attached to this blog forever, being one of the 20 or so winningest teams of all time...

However, along with those peaks of success are a lot of fairly mundane years. Add in the recent extended downturn until 2018 and the resulting divide interest between local fans and current students, and you wind up with a considerable lack of true “traditions” for those supporters.
