Syracuse basketball practice: Paschal Chukwu and other Tuesday observations

Syracuse held practice on Tuesday afternoon at the Carmelo K. Anthony Basketball Center. The Orange tips off the regular season Nov. 13 against Lehigh at the Carrier Dome. Here are three observations from practice, including notes on transfer Paschal Chukwu, the scholarship freshmen and assistant coach Mike Hopkins coaching in a neck brace.

Tall man

The Providence transfer isn’t eligible for the 2015-16 season, but he’s hard to miss. Chukwu, standing a towering 7 feet 2 inches, is the tallest player in Syracuse basketball history. Oftentimes when guards drove to the rim, Chukwu waited on the opposite block and a soft lob and thunderous slam would follow.
