Shamarko Thomas is 1st NFL ejection under new helmet rule (video)

Syracuse, N.Y. -- A former Syracuse football safety became the first player to be ejected from an NFL game under a new league rule designed to remove dangerous hits initiated with the helmet.

Shamarko Thomas, who played at SU from 2009-12 and is attempting to latch on with the Indianapolis Colts this season, was ejected from the team's first preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks in the fourth quarter.

Thomas was running over the top to cover receiver David Moore on a deep pass near the sideline when he lowered his helmet and drove it into Moore's head as the ball fell incomplete.
