When The Daily Orange asked Jim Boeheim about Gerry McNamara’s relationship with Syracuse’s fan base, his response was simple.
“They love him,” Boeheim told The D.O. in October. “They’ll love him as long as he wins.”
In his first regular season game as SU’s head coach, McNamara held up his end of the bargain, leading Syracuse (1-0, Atlantic Coast) to a 74-58 season-opening victory over second-year Division I foe New Haven (0-1, Northeast) Monday evening. The Orange, after struggling to pull away in their exhibition wins over Siena and Niagara, dominated early against the Chargers, giving McNamara a win in his return to the Dome.
