Desiree Elmore may not play for Syracuse women's basketball this season

Syracuse, N.Y. -- Syracuse women's basketball sophomore guard Desiree Elmore might have to sit out this season as a redshirt, head coach Quentin Hillsman said.

Hillsman said he has not fully contemplated that issue but added that the time is drawing near for it to be addressed. Elmore has an unspecified medical ailment and has not yet played this year.

Hillsman said Elmore suffered the injury late in preseason. She is close to returning and can participate in almost all of the team's practice drills, but still hasn't been medically cleared.

The balance Hillsman must strike is how many games Elmore could play this season and how effective will she be after a long absence.
