PHOENIX – Former Syracuse placekicker Cole Murphy signed a free-agent contract with the Arizona Cardinals on Wednesday, March 13 – the first day of the NFL's new league year. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Murphy is one of three past Orange standouts on the Cardinals' current roster, along with defensive end Chandler Jones and offensive lineman Justin Pugh. Murphy is expected to compete with Zane Gonzalez this offseason for the Arizona kicking job.
A four-year starter for the Orange from 2014-17, Murphy was twice named a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award as nation's top kicker.
