Swansea winger Jefferson Montero joins Emelec in bizarre 'sub-loan' after failing to shine at La Liga side Getafe

Out-of-favour Swansea winger Jefferson Montero is the subject of a rare 'sub-loan' after joining Ecuadorian side Emelec from his temporary club Getafe.

Montero headed to the Spanish side on a season-long loan in the summer, but after failing to secure first-team football there, has now moved on again to Emelec.

The bizarre 'sub-loan' means the 28-year-old has not returned to Swansea after leaving Getafe, instead remaining on the club's books until the end of the season.

The move is doable due to the transfer window in Ecuador, which is currently open, and the fact that the loans have occurred over the space of two separate windows - summer and winter.
