Coventry City issued with eviction notice by the stadium's new owners the Frasers Group - led by Mike Ashley - as they are told they 'must agree a new licence' despite insisting their current one expires in 2031

Coventry City football club have been issued with an eviction notice by the new owners of their stadium.

The club in a statement confirmed media reports that suggested that the Frasers Group - run by former Newcastle owner Mike Ashley - have told the Championship side they must agree a new licence to play at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Coventry insisted they are surprised by the decision as they have a licence until 2031, though the BBC have reported that the Frasers Group don't believe they are bound by the agreement arranged with the stadium's previous owners - Wasps rugby club, who went into administration in October.
