Betting suspended on ex-Rangers and Arsenal defender Giovanni van Bronckhorst taking over from Steven Gerrard as Gers manager - with Russell Martin second favourite in the race for the top job at Ibrox

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is the overwhelming favourite to take over from Steven Gerrard as Rangers manager, with one leading bookmaker suspending betting on the appointment.

Gerrard departed Ibrox for Aston Villa after a three-and-a-half year stay in Glasgow, the highlight being last season's Scottish Premiership triumph without losing a match.

It leaves Rangers, who are top-of-the-table this season by four points to rivals Celtic, looking for a new manager and Sky Bet have already suspended betting, with ex-Gers defender Van Bronckhorst the favourite.
