Tony Mowbray replaces Wayne Rooney as Birmingham City boss on two-and-a-half year deal... as he joins with Blues 20th in the Championship after disastrous tenure under ex-Man United star

Birmingham City have announced Tony Mowbray as their new manager on a two-and-a-half year deal.

Mowbray takes over with the club 20th in the Championship and is their third manager of the season after John Eustace and Wayne Rooney.

He arrives on the back of Rooney's disastrous tenure, with the ex-Manchester United player overseeing a collapse from sixth in the table looking over their shoulder at relegation.

Blues won just two of their 15 games under Rooney and face an uphill battle to turn the tide.

Mowbray arrives with a wealth of experience and is oven-ready for the Championship, having been dismissed by Sunderland in December.
