Sunderland’s problems are continuing to mount after the team were forced to spend an extra night in Southampton when their flight home failed to take off because of thick fog.
Consequently, they arrived back in the North-East less than 48 hours before Saturday’s Premier League match against Arsenal.
The Black Cats were beaten 1-0 in the EFL Cup at St Mary’s Stadium on Wednesday night and had been due to make an immediate return to Newcastle from Bournemouth Airport.

However, poor weather conditions meant the flight was cancelled and the team had to find a hotel for the evening.
