Sunderland sign Joleon Lescott on free transfer as former England defender joins Premier League basement boys until end of the season

David Moyes has turned to Joleon Lescott in his bid to keep Sunderland in the Premier League by signing the former England defender on a short-term deal.

Lescott left Aston Villa last August following the club's relegation from the Premier League, with the former Manchester City and Everton defender heading to AEK Athens. But the Greek side agreed to terminate his contract after just three months.

Sunderland have now signed the 34-year-old until the end of the season.
