Sunderland are in advanced talks with Aston Villa over a loan deal for Ross McCormack and pushing to complete a deal before Friday night's visit of Derby County.
The Scotland striker has barely featured for Steve Bruce's side in pre-season as negotiations have progressed.
It is understood the level of Sunderland’s contribution to McCormack’s £45,000 per week wages is yet to be agreed.

Simon Grayson is shaping his squad ahead of the Championship season and has identified McCormack as the player who could replace Jermain Defoe's goals.
