Sunderland are still trying to sign U.S. defender DeAndre Yedlin from Tottenham Hotspur, sources told ESPN FC.
Yedlin, 23, was not in the squad for Spurs' 1-1 draw at Everton on Saturday -- the opening day of the new Premier League season -- as discussions continue with hopes of a deal before the end of the transfer window on Aug. 31.
The full-back enjoyed a breakout last season on loan with the Black Cats, making 21 starts under then-manager Sam Allardyce and helping the club avoid relegation from England's top flight.
Allardyce made his desire to keep Yedlin known before leaving Sunderland to take over England's national squad, but new boss David Moyes said earlier this month that he's open to having Seattle native back.
