Sunderland boss claims Covid vaccine could be behind player's 'inflammed heart'

Sunderland manager Lee Johnson has claimed that the heart problems affecting his goalkeeper Lee Burge could have been caused by a Covid jab.

Burge has been ruled out of action for the League One side for five weeks with an 'inflamed heart'.

The goalkeeper has been told, as part of his treatment, he must not let his heart rate rise above 100 beats per minute during light training. It comes after he contracted Covid-19.

Heart issues after having a Covid vaccination are not common and inflammation - known as myocarditis - has been found to be rare after a Moderna jab.
